We spend a lot of time keeping the server up to date and of course paying the hosting bills so that everyone has access to Midgard, but with more users and more features, the time we spend and the money we spend grows.
We have come a long way – initially, we had a shared account with 512MB of RAM and could only host around 8 players. We grew, and moved to a VPS which could hold (somewhat shakily) 32 people at any time. I am pleased to say that thanks to the communities generous donations and Stabhappy’s funding we now have a full fledged server. (Specs here http://www.midgardserver.net/?p=303) This is hosted on a dedicated 100 Mbps/ 10 Mbps line at Stabhappy’s residence. This is far superior to most VPS hosting where hardware and the internet line is being shared among many users.
We still think we can do things better though – and we are always looking into better ways to improve the community and serve more players.
Right now, we’re hoping to upgrade our systems and serve even players and most importantly our current users who have stuck with us. Please, help us how you can. If you have hardware you can donate then that is great, or any amount of money helps us!
As always, our VIPS are rewarded with special ranks in game. Donations ranging from €5 to €19 you’ll be placed in the VIP group, and any larger you’ll be put into VIP+. The benefits of each group are outlined on our Commands and Features page, so why not take a look?
